The Opening Ceremony of the Capacity-Building Workshop for Young Members of Parliament in the 8th Mandate
📌 Salle des Convivialités of the National Museum
🗓️ Friday 07 February 2025

It all began early in the morning with a discussion session between the new parliamentarians and representatives of ELECAM and UNFPA.
Themes addressed for the edification of honourable young people :
- The electoral code and procedures
- Young people's civic participation
And we came up with a few suggestions for advocacy by young people.

A very edifying and satisfying session for the young parliamentarians.
Afterwards, as we waited for the ceremony to begin, we moved into the social room for a moment of escapism with artist Cathy Piqure.

The time has come
The Minister for Youth and Civic Education is here, along with the members of the panel.

Introducing David KETEM, Head of CELCOM MINJEC.

The first item on the programme was the playing of Cameroon's national anthem.

The first speaker was the representative of the Mayor of Yaoundé 3rd district.
A word of welcome in which she thanked MINJEC for having chosen the Yaoundé 3 town hall to host this ceremony.
She spoke of the joy felt by the young people of her district at the many actions taken by the government on their behalf. A work that deserves to be praised
She went on to congratulate MINJEC and the government once again on this initiative, which involves young people in the decision-making process and promotes their civic participation.
The Youth Parliament and Municipal Youth Councils are therefore ideal initiatives for providing young people with a forum in which to express their views and make their own contribution to nation-building.
It therefore invites young people to take advantage of and capitalise on these initiatives to become real agents of change in their various localities.
A happy stay in the Yaoundé 3rd arrondissement.

The second speaker was the President of the BEN CNJC, announced here by a member of parliament.

She began her speech by thanking firstly the Minister for Youth and Civic Education for giving young people this opportunity, and then all the other members of the panel, particularly the members of the Parliamentary Youth Hope Network, led here by its coordinator, the Honourable Joshua OSIH.
She then welcomed all the young parliamentarians in this 8th term of office from all over the country and congratulated them on their selection to this new group of leaders.
Thanks were then expressed to the leaders who, through this initiative, are giving young people the opportunity to express themselves and contribute to nation-building.
She looks back at the recent youth platform held a few days ago, which enabled young people from all backgrounds and all over the country to learn about a number of issues
Today, therefore, it is a question of continuity, and she invites the parliamentarians of this new mandate to get down to work and make an impact in their various localities in order to help create a bright future for Cameroon.

The United Nations Population Fund then took the floor.
After the customary greetings, the UNFPA representative focused her remarks on the civic participation of young people.
This is therefore the objective of this capacity-building for young parliamentarians, which is to be carried out through Civic and Entrepreneurial Moral Rearmament in order to forge enterprising young people capable of driving forward Cameroon's development.
Put young People firt is the leitmotiv she is giving to the young people involved in this initiative, recommending that they work hard and abnegate to represent their pair effectively in participating in the country's development.

We now turn to the coordinator of the National Assembly's Youth Hope Network, the Honourable Joshua OSIH.
First of all, thanks to the Minister for Youth and Civic Education and to all the partners in this initiative, particularly UNFPA, CNJC, etc.
After the presentation by the many members of parliament accompanying him at the ceremony, he reminded the young people that this initiative had also been set up to immerse them in the world of parliament, and their response to this appeal reflects their commitment to public service.
The aim is for them to acquire the qualities and information they need to change their own mindsets, so that they can spread the word in their various localities and work with their peers to promote the country's development.

For his speech proper, the patron saint of youth began with a word of thanks. First of all, he thanked the Yaoundé 3 Town Hall for hosting the event, and then all the private and government partners, in particular the Réseau Espérance Jeunesse and its coordinator, as well as the Cameroon National Youth Council and its president.
He went on to welcome all the young parliamentarians of the 8th term and urged them not to repeat the mistakes of previous terms.
This year, capacity building will be based on PRONEC REAMORCE.
In view of the regression in terms of civic-mindedness and good morals noted by the President of the Republic himself in one of his speeches to the nation, it is important and even essential for young people to take control of their lives. This will involve you, the young leaders, who will have to pass on what you receive here in your various localities.
Furthermore, as 2025 is an election year, he is inviting these young parliamentarians to join the special electoral education campaign launched recently by MINJEC to guarantee peace and social cohesion before, during and after the elections.
The family doctor is therefore appealing to their sense of responsibility to represent their peers effectively in the decision-making process and to be worthy of being the next generation and the country's future leaders.
It is with this note of optimism that Minister MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU declares open the capacity-building session for young parliamentarians of the 8th mandate.
