Bertoua CPS in the final
This 58th edition of the Fête de la Jeunesse, with its theme of youth, import substitution and economic patriotism for Cameroon's progress, comes at a time when irregular migration is on the increase throughout the world, and more specifically in Africa. Added to this is the fact that our society is witnessing a worrying and gradual decline in civic values such as civic-mindedness, a sense of general interest, respect for the public good, solidarity, living together, responsibility and, above all, patriotism.
Irregular migration has many consequences, not least of which is the social fragility of the migrant. To this end, the Programme d'Aide au Retour et à l'Insertion des Jeunes de la Diaspora, (PARI-JEDI), specifically supports distressed returnees, to facilitate and sustain their reintegration.
Intensified awareness-raising campaigns on these scourges by the Cameroonian government and development partners such as IOM, through the promotion of safe and regular migration and the imbuing of moral, civic, patriotic and entrepreneurial values by MINJEC, are already a panacea for solving this problem.
To celebrate the Fête de la Jeunesse (Youth Day), which gives rise to a number of socio-cultural activities, a mini soccer tournament was organized from February 4 to 10, 2024, called "FESTI-FOOT DE LA DIASPORA".
Given that successful migration is advantageous for both countries of origin and host countries, PARI-JEDI, with the contribution of the Association Camerounaise de Lutte Contre l'Immigration Clandestine (ACALCLC), and a number of successful young sportsmen and women from the Diaspora, proposes to promote regular migration by providing young people with useful information during the above-mentioned tournament.
To this end, this second edition of the Diaspora Festi-Foot to raise awareness of irregular migration was organized under the theme: Chosen and legal immigration: A factor in the nation's development.
